My work

Throughout my time at Florida State University, I had the opportunity to create unique and original work through both my academic studies and extracurriculars. I produced many different texts for online and print that showcase a variety of expertise.  This small sample demonstrates the skills that I possess in the fields of communications and English.

The Odyssey Articles

I began writing for The Odyssey my freshman year at Florida State, and continue to contribute today. This on-campus Greek newspaper gives me the opportunity to express my views about local, international and Greek life-related issues.

The weekly publication is released to all Greek houses at Florida State University. Funded by advertising, the paper is provided free of charge to students.

I am currently a bi-weekly writer for the Odyssey and I cover such topics as on-campus events and philanthropies, fashion, food, travel and global issues that I feel are still potent here at FSU.

Viral Marketing Campaign

As an assignment for my Writing, Editing & Print Online class, students were required to construct a viral marketing campaign on a subject matter of their choice.

My group created a viral marketing campaign entitled FSU First Year Problems. It is a parody campaign that aims to shows students that their trivial "problems" aren't really problems at all. We were inspired by the campaign First World Problems and modeled ours similarly.

We created several different texts and displayed them throughout select social media websites. We generated memes, produced videos, and posted fake flyers on campus. The campaign has a Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter page, which are all interconnected for maximum sharing capabilities.

Hotel Duval Social Media Audit

In order for social media to work effectively, its content must be accurate, consistent, and new. To assess Hotel Duval's success in this field, I conducted a social media audit for all of the hotel's outlets.

This audit looks at the voice, views, feedback, and overall achievement of Hotel Duval's various social networking. I modeled it after the Marriott Autograph Collection's Social Media Audit that Hotel Duval received in October.

It is displayed in a PowerPoint presentation so that it could be presented to the staff during a weekly meeting.

Keyword Project

My keyword project is a newsletter designed for first year Editing, Writing & Media students. I chose to cover the term pathos and describe in detail using this format. I provided history and background information as my introduction and then used several examples of the term in context.

This project displays my writing and design skills. The original was intended to be a hard copy, but I have condensed the file so that it can viewed online as well.

I’m 44 and I’m still growing. This is just the beginning.”

Profile Piece: "Rolling With the Punches"

This article was created as a class assignment for my Writing for Media class. The profile piece required that we interview an average individual with a powerful message. It is meant to give a behind-the-scenes look at a person's life.

I truly enjoyed this assignment because it was a challenge. I met with my subject for about 2 hours and she shared very personal information with me. I contacted a co-worker of hers to get additional quotes for the piece.
